Sports Therapy

Sports Massage

What is Sports Massage?

Sports Massage is a physical therapy involving the manipulation of all soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia/ connective tissue).  It is a deeper more active form of massage that is designed to help correct issues within the soft tissues, increase range of movement and help recovery from injury or pain.  Although a deeper form of massage, it should never be unbearably painful.  Within our clinic we aim to work at a depth within your pain threshold in order to work with your body to produce optimal results.  And it is not just for sports people!.

Benefits

Sports massage has a range of benefits and can help with:

  • Reducing tension/ tightness in muscles;
  • Increasing circulation and lymphatic flow;
  • Improving muscle tone
  • Increasing the length and suppleness of muscles and improved range of movement;
  • Reducing and remodelling scar tissue;
  • The removal of waste products from soft tissues.

Who can benefit?

It is a myth that sports massage is just for sports people.  Sports massage can help with many common ailments from head to toe including:

  • Back and Neck pain;
  • Shoulder pain (including frozen shoulder)
  • Headaches and TMJ syndrome;
  • Pain from poor posture;
  • Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) including tennis/ golfers elbow, wrist pain etc;
  • Knee injuries;
  • Sciatica;
  • Shin splints and plantar fasciitis and many more.

For anyone participating in sport or physical exercise it can help prevent injury, improve performance, prepare for an event and assist recovery after an event.  In our clinic we treat people of all ages and activity levels, from professional athletes to those with manual jobs and those who do not participate in sport/ physical activity at all.

Some medical conditions or procedures make sports massage unsuitable, sometimes permanently and sometimes for a temporary period of time..  If you have any medical conditions, have undergone medical treatment or are awaiting medical treatment, please get in contact and we will be able to advise you on your suitability for massage

Treatments Available

Given no two people are the same and no two ailments are the same, rather than having a set treatment list we offer a range of different time slots from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. Within these time frames we will provide a bespoke treatment to provide you with the most appropriate treatment for you.

Soft Cupping Massage

What is Soft Cupping Massage?

Soft cupping is a form of massage and myofascial release using small silicone cups.  The treatment is undertaken using oil and the cups are squeezed before being placed on the skin, creating a vacuum which draws the tissues up, helping to lift and separate the fibres, and loosening the soft tissues .  The cups are then continuously moved in traditional massage movements to prevent marking of the skin.  Using decompression and traction they provide a deep tissue effect but with a gentle feel making the treatment a good option for people who want a deep tissue effect but don’t like the feel of a deep tissue massage. The cups are also gentle enough to use on the face.

Benefits

Soft cupping has all the same benefits of massage such as reducing muscle tensions, improving blood flow and circulation, engaging the lymphatic system to improve lymphatic flow, helping to loosen adhesions and reduce scar tissue, reducing inflammation and removal of waste products from the soft tissues.  But in addition to this soft cupping can also help:

* Improve lymphatic drainage, reducing the appearance of swelling

* Reduce stretch marks and cellulite

* Skin rejuvenation

* Improve colon function

Who can benefit?

Soft cupping can be incorporated into a sports massage treatment or delivered as a standalone treatment.  It is particularly beneficial for those who want/ need a deep tissue effect but don’t like deep pressure.  It is also a particularly effective treatment for odema and swelling.

Sports Reflexology

What is Sports Reflexology?

Many professional sports people use traditional reflexology for it’s benefits in improving circulation, prompting the body’s natural healing response, improved blood flow and deep relaxation.

In additional to this, we also offer SportFlexology, which is a specific reflexology protocol for pain management, injury rehabilitation and improved mobility.  Based on the theory of whole body myofascial links (or muscular chains (Myers)) SportsFlexology targets this chains via the reference points on the feet.

Benefits

SportFlexology has a range of benefits for a wide range of people.  Not just for sports people, this treatment can also aid accident or injury rehabilitation as well as acute and chronic pain conditions. Benefits include:

* Improved range of movement

* Shorter recovery times

* Pain reduction

*Reduced swelling

Who can benefit?

SportsFlexology is particularly beneficial for those with injuries, reduced range of movement or those suffering with pain.  Improving range of movement for key joints can significantly aid sporting performance.  For injuries it can help with recovery times and pain management throughout this period.  Within our clinic we have also found extremely positive results with individuals suffering with complex pain conditions such as fibromyalgia, ehlers danlos and sciatica.

Talk to us if…
